First introduced in 2006, with the widely-praised F 800 S, BMW's 798cc parallel- twin motor has gone on to power everything from roadsters to tourers and adventure bikes.
But sometimes it gets glossed over in favour of its bigger and more-famous brother: the Boxer engine. Here are a few things it's worth knowing about the unstoppable F-series bikes.

BMW S 1000 RR-riding racer Maria Costello is holding a women-only track event at the fantastic Donington Park Circuit on 15 July – where she and her expert instructors use RRs.
Female riders are invited to join her and enjoy a friendly, confidence-building introduction to track riding with Maria and her team of expert instructors, whatever class and size of machine you own.

"As Motorrad newbies we set off for Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the German Alps with limited expectations. Knowing we were heading for the Bavarian Alps conjured up images of beer halls, moustaches and lederhosen. The reality was much more spectacular."
