“I knew my first bike had to be a BMW, I had ordered my F 800 R before I had started my DAS course, I passed my test first time with flying colours so all that was left was to wait for delivery of my bike. It was a lovely winter day (22nd Dec 2015) it was time to go get my bike! I was excited yet nervous, was I doing the right thing? Could I live without a car? I was sure I was ready. Anyway the handover went well and I even found a spot next to Loch Ness where I could take a couple of photos on my phone. I was loving it but I was only 20 miles into my 200 mile journey home.

I decided to go home via the scenic route taking in Fort William and of course Glencoe. I reached Glencoe when all of a sudden I seen a flash of lightning! Oh well I'm about to get wet! No, what I was about to endure was 30-odd miles of hell–rain, snow, gales, lightning, cold, darkness and worst of all snow on the road. I was terrified! The bike on the other hand took it all in its stride and ensured a total motorcycle novice can get on the F 800 R and ride through anything a Scottish winter can throw at it.
I've now covered 500 miles and apart from those 30 miles it has been amazing. Thankfully I'm not listening to everyone saying 'it's the wrong time of year'.”
